Chrome Laptop

Well, you could see what was reflected in our cold dawn this morning? That's right, we are now proud owners of Google Chrome OS first laptop - Cr-48. Of course, we rip open the window and got the right to read 12.1-inch Atom-powered laptops. So, what do you feel? Why is the keyboard? And most importantly, as the player Chrome OS? Stand by our impressions that we can add depth during the day. First impression: this thing is different.

The laptop next Google, called CR-48, will be a game changer. The computer itself is not a revelation, it has standard features like an Intel Atom processor, a 12.1-inch screen, eight hours of battery life, Wi-Fi and 3G connectivity, a webcam and flash storage instead of a traditional hard drive. What makes this baby different is that it was built around a brand new operating system Google Chrome that will help redefine the future of computers and the Internet. Think Chrome OS as a Web browser improved. The only programs we run are web applications (like Gmail and Google Docs). This means that the most ardent computer tasks are performed on remote servers and appear instantly to your computer via its Internet connection.

CR-48 may look like any other laptop, but we can say immediately that it feels much better than most of these plastic netbook is on store shelves right now. Whole body (which means that the edges of the lid and bottom) is made of a soft plastic rubber-like matte black - in fact it looks a lot like the back of the droid, though it feels a bit less rubbery. look at all like the old black MacBook, including a magnetic lock with a pin spot to get your finger and lift the lid and a hollow screen hinge. We are obviously very taken with the hardware design looks, but the laptop itself will not be turning heads or winning a beauty contest, and it was clearly intentional on the Google site - remember it does is not for consumers, but more for the less intelligent developers and early adopters.

When we took a 0.9-inch thick notebook, we expected it to be a little lighter - According to Google, it tips the scales at 3.6 kg. If you ask us it seems a bit 'too heavy for its size, but is still easy to carry on a coffee table with one hand. On the flip side, we are struck by his subtle body and that its battery is flush with the bottom case. Yes, fortunately, is not difficult hump battery Jolibook than its nearest competitor. Do not forget the doors: the left side houses a VGA connector and the USB port on the right, 3.5 mm headphone jack and SD card slot.

Chrome is super limited to drivers at the moment, but we did mount an SD card and USB flash drive - there's just not dedicated, easy way to get the file explorer. Curiously, earlier versions of Chrome OS has a popup on your browser to navigate through an external drive, so we do not know why Google has removed yet. USB seems to attach a mouse, though.

The laptop is not as hot as some of the worst offenders know, but it started very cold, it was hot at the time - but so far we have not to put on the fan once.

Surprise! Under the lid is that the keyboard Chiclet showed before the Cr-48 from the official birth. The key, as the rest of the system, have a soft rubber grip and feel very good with their fingers to write. But as you can see in the picture above, the keyboard layout is probably the material aspects of the system differs from most of the netbooks out there. It is true that this is not the keyboard of his grandfather, and Google has made real changes to the traditional - that left the Caps Lock key search for a vetoed the usual line of controls and features removed to Windows or press mode command is now room for extra-large buttons Ctrl and Alt

For the most part, however, the changes will not take long to get used to. No chance to change the look back to the Caps Lock key, but we wanted to keep it is because it automatically starts a new tab when pressed. And as you can imagine, the top line of the back, forward and update the keys were also incredibly convenient browser-based operating system. We must also note that all of the common keyboard shortcuts Chrome work out of the box, such as Ctrl + card number, or Ctrl + D to bookmark the page.
